CHOPSTICK
Chopsticks are shaped pairs of equal-length sticks that have been used as
kitchen and eating utensils in virtually all of East Asia for over two
millennia.
Saibashi are Japanese
kitchen chopsticks used in Japanese cuisine. They are used in the preparation
of Japanese food, and are not designed for eating. These chopsticks allow
handling of hot food with one hand, and are used like regular chopsticks. These
chopsticks have a length of 30 cm (12 in) or more, and may be looped together
with a string at the top. They are made from bamboo, but for deep frying, metal
chopsticks with bamboo handles are preferred, as the tips of regular bamboo
chopsticks discolor and get greasy after repeated use in hot oil. The bamboo
handles protect against heat.
How
to Clean Up ?
Only
use cleaning soap then dry and store according to the type of material.
BUTCHER BLOCK
Butcher block, butcher's block is a style of assembled wood (often hard maple,
teak, or walnut) used as heavy duty chopping blocks, table tops, and cutting
boards. It was commonly used in butcher shops and meat processing plants but
has now become popular in home use.
Butcher blocks have been used in butcher shops for centuries, and still are in
many European countries. Increasingly, though, butcher block is being used in
domestic kitchens as an alternative to stone and laminate countertops. This has
created a new industry in the kitchen design arena and many furniture
manufacturers and hardwood flooring companies are getting into the production
of butcher blocks and butcher block countertops, in part because the
countertops can be constructed from left-over wood that would otherwise be
discarded.
How
to Clean Up ?
Proper care of a butcher block is important for longevity of the material and,
to a degree, food safety. If the material is regularly exposed to water and not
well cleaned, then mold can form. The seams where the wood is joined can buckle
as the wood expands and contracts. Keeping the material well oiled allows it to
maintain a rich color and its water repelling properties.
To properly care for the
butcher block any foreign material should first be removed, it can be
disinfected with vinegar (or in extreme cases, bleach), allowed to dry well,
and refreshed with mineral oil or other food safe sealant.
BUTTER
CHURN
A butter churn is a device used to convert cream into butter. This is done
through a mechanical process, frequently via a pole inserted through the lid of
the churn, or via a crank used to turn a rotating device inside the
churn.
The word “butter” is
believed to be derived from the Greek word bou-tyron, the approximate meaning
of which is “cow cheese”. However, some believe the word came from the Scythian
culture, as the ancient Greeks tended to herd sheep and goats, whose milk is
not as good for butter making as that of cows, which the Scythians primarily
herded. The word "churn" is from the Old English Ä‹yrin, to churn.
This is probably derived from the Old English cyrnel, "kernel," due
to the appearance of butter grains after milk has been churned.
The butter churn gave its name to the milk churn, early examples of which were
based on butter churns. The milk churn is not, however, used for the act of
churning, but rather to transport milk.
How
to Clean Up ?
First
is to separate each of the related devices and then wash as in general, this
tool has other types of material so that it has its own way of cleaning it as
it is made of wood as for iron but now it has begun to rarely with such
materials already made of glass.
