SOTO BETAWI

What is Soto Betawi?

Soto Betawi is Indonesian Food from Jakarta City. Savory and tasteful from soto Betawi always make hungry. Pieces of meat, intestines, tripe and lungs combined with a savory coconut milk smooth stroking tongue. Plus running lime, fried onions, chips and red sauce that makes even more delicious. Eaten with warm white rice, is very Delicious.

Soto Betawi is a type of soup that originates from the Jakarta area of Indonesia.

In Indonesian food, soto is a term used for many different types of soup originating from across the country – and just about every region has their own version of soto.

Betawis are the original people from the region of the island of Java, which is now the same region that makes up greater Jakarta.

So to recap, Soto Betawi is a native Jakarta dish, and sometimes it’s simply known in English as Jakarta beef soup.

Although there are many different recipes for this type of soto, the main typical ingredients include beef in a soup that’s made from both coconut milk and fresh milk, simmered with aromatic herbs and spices like galangal, garlic, shallots, kaffir lime leaves, and candlenut.

The soup is typically eaten along with rice and can be garnished with a number of side sambal chili sauces or acar pickles.

SOP BUNTUT

Sop buntut (oxtail soup) is very popular in Indonesia. If you ever visited an Indonesian restaurant that serves this soup, it is really hard to miss it since this is probably the most expensive dish among the many dishes available. I am sure that part of the reason for the princely price is due to the cost of buntut (oxtail), they are comparable to some of the choices cut of beef! This is why I rarely make this soup, though I love them to death. And when going out for a bite, I will treat myself to this maybe once in a year, haha, since the next cheapest dish in a menu can easily be half the price of this soup. I kid you not.

Lately there seems to be numerous places offering sop buntut bakar (grilled oxtail soup). These places claimed that they grilled the oxtail first, presumably with some spices, and made the soup from the grilled oxtail. If you own a grill, you can give it a try. I wouldn’t be surprised if the taste is indeed superior to the traditional one, after all, it is no secret that broth made from grilled meat should be better than un-grilled one, right?
